There really is a GOP party establishment. That establishment took up Palin as a useful tool in 2008, deployed Palin as an edged anti-Obama weapon in 2009 – and is now horrified to see that they may have set in motion a force possibly too powerful to halt when its time has ended. The story of the behind-the-scenes struggle to squelch Palin – and her ferocious determination not to be squelched – will be the big GOP-side story of the coming year.

From my perspective, you look to have been a lot more right than wrong about the “Palintasp.” So props from me. Just don’t spend ’em all in one place.
Certainly one possible development is that what she represents needed to be expressed, exposed, withstood, and exhausted, the more pointlessly and self-destructively the better. “If something’s falling, give it a push.” So, in one set of possible futures, she, her followers, and the reaction to them are so destructive to the GOP that it gives the left the time it needs to do its own work. So, maybe a jubjub bird, but a useful and necessary one, which is why we’ve all been so busy conjuring her up.
I agree about the torture discussion. Overall I’ve been too busy re-visiting too many other former positions of mine to have spent much time on that one, but I’ll have to do that, too, I suppose.
Jubjub, more like the Phoenix if you’re into metaphor. I guess if one is welling to sell out every principle like the Senior Senator from her state, to bypass every election safeguard, to commandeer the machinery of the state, that’s considered ‘growth’ well by the light of the NRSC, who even now are ‘shooting the wounded’ from the last contests, as Whittaker Chambers warned half a century ago

one of the best exchanges i have ever had here in the blogverse, was the Dostoyesky Torture discussion, where we had two honest, defensible positions.
that is pretty rare.
Palin is the TP/GOP’s frankenstein monster…perfectly crafted to enchant the low information base….but like the poor monster, she has always carried the seeds of movement conservatism’s doom.
