I knew it. Rising up from the ashes.

@ CK MacLeod:
There's a whole lot of commas in that comment. I was hoping one of them would be misplaced or something so I could do what I did with miggy that last time, but none of them stood out.

@ fuster:
I just tried to post the Aerosmith song, Last Child. Since Colin always has to help me with all the computer stuff, I thought if he saw me trying hard to that extent he might reconsider. That should make him cry. Nothing sadder than a child trying to be good so the end of something doesn't happen.
If my lack of computer skills hadn't gotten in the way, my point was going to be that Steven Tyler beat me to the punch on the Last Child stuff. It's just the kind in the song. I still have siblings, so not much of a bit there. "Just a punk on the street," and I really was a good little punk. No trouble. Boring.
But as a last child, through and through, I have seen a lot of things die. I realize one of the things that appealed to me about this blog was its perceived inability to die. Zombies don't die. But it was kind of worth it to read Colin's explanation of blog zombieness. Brilliant as always.

"

From my personal perspective, there's one excellent reason not to let this go dark. It will feed my narcissism. I will, indeed, have broken the blog. You guys had this thing going fine until I came along, and this always happens when I come along. The last child. The last yoga teacher. The last, last, last...yes, the last zombie. You guys can't possibly be okay with me thinking I broke the blog. That thought has to piss you off enough to keep going.

Take heart, mates. Going all astrological on you--Scorpios always rise up from the ashes. It's the Phoenix in us. CK's just announcing the going down into the ashes now because he's beginning to sense how gloriously he'll rise up.

@ CK MacLeod:
Thanks for the poem. Finally.

It took me a bit, Nietzsche, but that is dead on. That absolutely should be copyrighted. People be usin it as a t-shirt. I don't know how you can own the rights to something like that, but you need to try.

@ CK MacLeod:
Sad, but it took me awhile to realize how funny your "Hah!" is in that context.

CK MacLeod wrote:

I’m wondering if Nietzsche made some comment that could be construed that way.

Of course he did. Every Nietzschian comment can be construed that way.

"but such a movement backward is on a fundamental symbolic level un-American, thus the compulsive need to mask it in hyper-patriotism."
Brilliantly stated bit of social psychology there, CK. Love the way you directed things up to the video. Text and clip make for a mini-art movie.

On “Exceptionally Exceptional

@ CK MacLeod:
Ok. But with you receiving a very nice consolation prize. Plus, I'm awarding myself something for the "comma" comment. That was pretty funny too considering how miguel had written all those things about my hero and my only response was to question the placement of a comma. Not bad.

"

@ CK MacLeod:
I just have to tell you how funny you are.

I think everyone should quote this part over and over no matter what else they're commenting on.

That was my favorite part.

"They want their hegemony and to decry it"
Love that. And while I'm with Cornell West in thinking that Obama "doesn't care about poor people," can you imagine what it must be like to be Obama? You have the TP saying you're a socialist, and people like me thinking you're a conflict averse, Manchurian Candidate, reassuring the establishment. If he was an NBA ref he'd be justified in thinking he must be doing a good job because both sides hate him. That's what refs like to think in a similar situation. But this is different. Remember when Michelle Obama said what she said about being proud of America for the first time? People went nuts about that one. I was like, "400 years of terrorism and you think an intelligent, educated African-American woman should have been proud of America at all, ever?" Come on. Black America is where the exceptionally exceptional part of our society exists. 400 years of terrorism and they have never gone to counter-terrorism. If any group of people ever had a right to be counter-terrorists its black America and it's never happened. (The Black Panthers wanted to work within the community and while they did go by the "by any means necessary" credo, they would have been a positive force within black communities if allowed to be that.) And why? Why no counter-terrorism? The capacity to love. Courage. The capacity to put the pain into all kinds of creative channels and keep going without becoming counter-terrorists. So if you're looking for what is exceptional about America, look at Black America.

On “years and infirmities heavy upon him

@ CK MacLeod:
Yes, great poem. How about you writing one about Buddy?

"

I have much to say on this subject, but I want my first comment to just be a thanks. Thank you for going there. Thank you for sharing what you're going through. I'm praying for the end you would like for Buddy to experience. That's a beautiful way to go and I hope it's exactly how it happens. More later.

I think my mistake is using Yahoo. As a search engine, it's fine for sports, but very poor for everything else. I forget that.

"

@ CK MacLeod:
Thanks for the data. The article was really informative. I like the way he ends with the assessment that what MM said was "mostly true."

"

I also think that CK's Marxist background has something to do with his present day disregarding of the issue. When a highly intelligent person has seen things from one perspective for awhile, he or she eventually stops doing that and since he or she continues to sense the intellectual residue of what they did for so long, they think it's always somehow there in what they express in the present. But it's not.

"

No surprise, I'm going almost entirely by feel here, but from a political perspective, the one thing that I know CK is aware of, but I think continues to under appreciate in general is the obvious fact that there has for a long time been a very small percentage of Americans in control of almost all the wealth. I tried to get some new statistics on the percentage of wealth held by the top one-percent of wealthy Americans, but failed. Suffice it to say that it is staggeringly huge and getting huger. This is to be me, the main issue. I fail to understand how any political discussion is relevant outside of it. I fail to see how people consider the U.S. to be the U.S. in respect to power. Can one percent of something make for a country? That one percent is not rising and falling. It doesn't fall. It just keeps taking a bigger and bigger portion of things, using every economic downturn to buy more of the things that poor Americans once owned. Doomsday predictions are unnecessary. Eventually, the lowest 99 percent won't own anything. I know how you guys feel about Michael Moore, but his book didn't go far enough. It should have been called, "Dude, this was always their country."

I was thinking, oh, man, both of them posted the song. But yours is not Don't Go Changin. Did you do that on purpose? Funny if you did.

"

Jeez. I thought Miguel and I were buried in a lost Post a Comment space and then all this happens. CK always told me that things don't always die out even when they seem pretty much dead. So I'll keep that in mind. My professor comment was just meant to keep me out of trouble really, since CK was handling what George was writing and had already tried to help Miguel. My imput at that point would have been more destructive.bob wrote:

You shoulda told us – we coulda been on our best behavior – we woulda won the triple crown for ya

And I like you guys just they way you are. Maybe CK or Fuster can post a video of "Don't Go Changin'" I think that was the name of that horrible song.
